Well hello there!
*Warning* Lots of pics below!!!!!
After some time away from writing (or what I like to call “mama’s summer blog break”), I have finally decided to get back to some writing!
The last month has been packed FULL of family activities and road trips. At one point, we were away from home for 17 out of 24 days. While road tripping was tons of fun…this home–body is ready to enjoy the rest of the summer at a slower speed (somewhat).
Here is a taste of what we have been up to!
House sat for some friends. We took care of their little farm animals and dogs for a week. There were our 2 dogs, their 2 dogs, cats & kittens, ducks, chickens, and rabbits. One amazing part of this…they let us eat whatever we found in their freezers! We had bacon, sausage, chicken, more bacon, lots of homemade jams and yummy duck eggs. I didn’t realize I liked duck eggs! Overall, we were able to relax and ate too well!
The silly dogs included: 1 Golden Retriever, 1 Schnoodle & 2 Mini Goldendoodles
Emerson had the best time with the kittens (go figure). She found her “favorite” and really, really, really wants to bring it home!
Road trip to Kansas to visit some of Emerson’s bio. family. The 12.5 hour drive (one-way) wasn’t too bad! We had a great time catching up with them and adore the relationship they desire to have with Emmy! They have become family to us over the years. Love it! We even made sure to stop to see some friends in Kansas City on the way home! They had twins last fall and we hadn’t met the cutie pies yet. We were so happy we got to see them for a couple hours.
Family vacation to Santa Clause, IN & Holiday World. We stayed in some adorable cottages with all the amenities we could need! It was like having a nice hotel room…in a campground setting. Holiday World was impressive and we hope to get back there soon!
Our garage. The glorified shed (as I call it) is almost done! The building and roof was up in three days and now we are waiting on the overhead door and electric to be finished…..then we get to organize the inside!
Vacation Bible School Stage and Building week. This crazy week is filled with lots of creativity, building, climbing ladders and carrying heavy props. Several of us get together each year to transform the stage and most other areas of the church to fit the theme of VBS (all on a very tight budget and little man power). It is long and hard work! But worth it!
VBS Week. Jon and I both were group leaders each night at VBS and it exhausted us! Emerson had so much fun that she almost cried when it was over….but what an amazing time with the kiddos!
Friends, Family & Fitness Stuff. Throw in several pool days, family ice cream runs, zoo days, Pre-K Graduation, T-ball games, book club pool parties, a few 5k races, and Shaun T’s challenge week…no wonder this past month has been exhausting. Gotta love summer!
This is what I have learned about myself over the years…
Exhausting seasons always need to be followed by a time of rest.
I feel like I am finally at the point where I can try to get caught up on cleaning and laundry….and try to get a handle on having a somewhat predictable day! Yay!!
I am concentrating on enjoying my last summer together with Emerson…until she begins Kindergarten! I seriously cannot believe she will be in school when August comes…and that life will be changing once again. She is SO ready to go! Mama is not quite as ready!
Looking ahead to the next half of summer. We are expecting to get a new roof on the house, new landscaping around the house and garage, a family lake week and school prep stuff. Add in a few more 5k races….and possibly training for a Half Marathon in September and this time is going to FLY! Of course, we will have more pool days and ice cream runs too!
I hope you are enjoying your summer and are cherishing the time with your family. Love you all!
