Ahh, books! How can I possibly describe all the ways that books make me happy?
I love the smell of them, how they feel in my hand…and love reading them of course. I have lost way too many hours of sleep over reading a good book. Book lover problems.
Our current house even has an upcoming project involving books. We have a cute nook/dormer upstairs that is going to be injected with tons of character. Here is an inspiration pic! I am hoping to add book shelves and a storage bench similar to this picture from Elle Decor. It will be such a sweet place to sit and read with the good light and cozy location.
Books that inspire creativity or evoke a special memory…those definitely make me happy too. I will have to share some really good home and design books with you soon! That could be a long post ha!
Lately we have had some pretty dreary spring days. These damp and cloudy days have given me a bit of time to flip through a cute little book I bought several years ago in San Diego. We stumbled upon a darling boutique that was filled with plants…and since I wasn’t going to be able to stuff a bunch of plants in my suitcase…you guessed it, I bought this book. It is called “Birds” by Jeffrey Fisher and just I found it online here! Side note–I was able to sneak a cute little succulent into my carry-on bag! I am a Plant Lady (I get it from my mom ha)! Good news though….I hear that being a Plant Lady is the new Cat Lady?!? Have you heard this too?
The color pallet of the hand-painted bird art drew me in. I love the simplicity, beauty and inspiration of the cute little book!
Bird books definitely hold a little special place in my family too. My Grandpa used to be an avid bird watcher. He would fill his bird feeder every day. One of the last things he did on the day he passed…..was…..fed his birds. My parents also fill their little feeders and we like to watch what kinds of birds come in to eat. My other grandparents love to draw in Hummingbirds. They are kind of like pets….coming right up to them while sitting out on the deck.
I try to make a point to teach my daughter about all the different birds we see out and about. Her favorite is the Grey Heron, who we see frequently. He is usually fishing in the river we pass when taking her to school. It is a great way for me to tell her about her Great Grandpa. Right now, she has a sweet nest of Mourning Doves right outside her bedroom window. We love to watch them. We also had a blast hiking out on some local trails last spring to try to get a peek at an amazing Eagle’s nest. She loved it! She also adores chickens. I guess bird loving could be a learned family quirk!
Do you have any special books or activities that remind you of your Grandparents? The older I get…the more I appreciate little quirks and traditions from our families. I love how something so simple can bring back good memories & how a little book (that I use for decor), can bring a little bit of meaning and joy to our home.
